The HAPPY CAPTAIN (tm) range of Marine and leisure products had their first test-release at the Gold Coast International Marine Expo, in November 2-3-4 in 2012, This release was the culmination of a three year dream for good friends, the Happy Captains have sailed the seven seas in power and sail (and bays in Tinnies) and enjoyed all things maritime, but always with one exception.
They grew to hate all boathooks, (at least, that is, all the ones that were currently on offer).
Their hook shape could NOT scoop up a mooring rope lying on the dock, or if they did by luck manage, the rope would fall away part-way to your hand.
They would not, even when advertised to do so, reliably thread a mooring rope through a buoy-ring.
They do not even glow in the dark !! Yuk !
They would corrode and jamb, or not lock so they would slide apart, (or worse, collapse towards you). They would be too heavy or too fragile.
Unable to moor you boat easily causes unhappy scenes between captains and their mates.
Unhappy Captains? YES.
Familiar complaints?? DEFINITELY.
Needs fixing?? ABSOLUTELY.
So the good-ole-boys set about finding a solution with the help of their first mate wives and the friendly yachtie community, who are always quick with advice.
After three years, many tests, many prototypes and dead ends, and three resulting innovation patents later, The good-ole-boys had finally become Happy Captains.
The Happy Captain boathooks are not just proudly made in Australia, they are proudly made in Brisbane Queensland.
The Happy captain range includes a growing list of very cool attachments such as hard bristle and soft bristle cleaning brushes and even tasteful Happy Captain marine apparel. The rain-proof Happy Captain “packet-jackets”, for example, (which fold back into their own breast-pocket to store), are perfect boating accessories.
